How to make a flaky pie crust (3-part video)
The young lady in these videos has cracked the code on flaky pie crust. Try her 1…2..3 simple techique for yourself to get the same results in your own kitchen.
Emma and Keegan spent the better part of an afternoon composing this little video collection. Then, they pulled me into their scheme when I tried to coach them. Some day we’ll learn how to edit and blend this video to make it look all professional. But for now, these videos are “fresh out of the oven”!
Enjoy!
Pie crust recipe:
2 cups unbleached white flour
2/3 cup salted butter
very cold water
Bake at 375 for about 45 minutes. Crust should be golden and if it’s an apple pie, apples should be soft.

Wow, thank you for sharing your family secret on the perfect crust. I have made enough pie crusts to understand that this solves the problem. Can’t wait to wow the guests at Christmas dinner!
:) My mom has recommended this to me, and I’m excited to try it out!!
I think she did a fantastic job! Congratulations! :-)
This pie crust looks wonderful. I always wondered if there was a better way then the way I did it. I started buying all ready made crusts. This is probably the answer to my bad crust problem. Thank you!
Emma! Awesome technique!! Loved ur video just as is!! What a fun family!! ❤️
Thanks Maggie!
Thanks so-o-o-o d much for all these recipes. I don’t know when I have learned “new” information on simple things like pie crust and I have been cooking for over 50 years.
Looking forward to trying some of these suggestions (especially finding where to order a good quality pastry cloth)! Really appreciate your web site. Blessings, Evelyn
This video was great and the pie looked amazing. I wonder if coconut or almond flour could be used with success?
Thank you for sharing this!
Thanks Laura! I made a pie crust with almond flour the other day using a very different recipe, but I wasn’t satisfied with the results. It was just too dry and came out on the burned side. So I plan to keep trying. =)
Emma,
Great Job and I cannot wait to try your recipe. one suggestion that I use is parchment paper. I roll out the crust on a piece and then tip it over onto the pie plate. You use less flour and easier positioning of the crust.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Robyn
I like that idea. Thanks for sharing!
