Traditional Foods
Nourishing Traditions is all about the traditional foods people have eaten throughout the ages to keep themselves, their families, and even their armies healthy and in top shape for daily living, reproducing, and battle. Many of the foods used in the Nourishing Traditions recipes are widely available, such as organic fruits, vegetables, grains, and beans. But many of the very important foods that set these people apart are difficult to find.
While we sometimes do offer
locally raised meats and vegetables, our goal is to provide high quality, nutrient dense non-perishable traditional foods during most of our co-op orders.
If you haven’t already read Nourishing Traditions, we highly encourage you to get your hands on a copy and read, read, read!

Rapadura: Rapadura is a natural, whole, organic alternative to processed sugars. It is simply the dried granules from the juice of sugar cane. Nothing added. Nothing removed. Rapadura contains an abundance of minerals and vitamins, it tastes great, and it’s very easy to use. Just substitute cup for cup of white sugar or brown sugar in recipes. You can even make your own powdered whole sugar by mixing Rapadura in the blender.

Celtic Sea Salt: Salt is necessary for life. But just like refined sugar, table salt has been stripped of the very nutrients your body needs in order to use the salt itself. Instead of benefitting your body, table salt actually dehydrates your body by pulling water out of the cells and tissues. That’s why you feel so thirsty after eating a salty meal. Celtic Sea Salt is a truly unrefined salt, containing all the minerals of the ocean. It’s delicious too!

Coconut Oil
Despite years of enduring a bad rap, coconut oil is making its way back into its rightful place as a truly healthy oil. One reason coconut oil is so good for you is this: unsaturated oils will become rancid within hours of cooking, even in the refrigerator. Since coconut oil is a saturated fat, it is stable at higher temperatures than unsaturated oils and will not become rancid when you heat it.
